Personal Outreach (See the news section for news on our Sept.17 outreach program) Video Here We visit the Huntington Beach Pier in southern California two or three times a year and hold secular signs which might attract those who do not believe in an invisible sky-daddy. Our purpose it to let other atheists/agnostics know that there is a place where they can share the idea that we can be good without a god.
We aren’t there to confront believers, but we do talk to those who approach us in a calm and non-threatening manner. This outreach is not for everyone in our group, but for those who enjoy a lively conversation and informal debating, this might be for you.
In September of 2011 we also presented a demonstration of how many passages in the Bible are immoral and could not be lived by in a modern society. We tore photocopies of the verses (see the TEARifed Bible page under Atheism) to make the point that why should people believe in a book with immoral messages?
So far we have never had any treats or acts of violence against us, but occasionally we have people telling us where we are going to go. (can you guess?) We always have video cameras rolling for the good stuff. We have lunch at the patio of the famous Duke’s restaurant at the foot of the pier about 12pm, then take our signs and move about 20 fee to one side of the entrance to the pier. sometimes the open-air preacher ‘banana man’http://www.livingwaters.com/ shows up and we have an informal debate.
If you’d like to find out when we are going to the pier, join our Meetup.com group from the home page.
