Atheism

Atheism, as a philosophical view, is the position that either affirms the nonexistence of gods or rejects theism. When defined more broadly, atheism is the absence of belief in deities, alternatively called non-theism.

Atheism – The lack of belief in a god and/or the belief that there is no god. The position held by a person or persons that ‘lack belief’ in god(s) and/or deny that god(s) exist.

Some people think that atheism is a sad, non-purposeful life-stance. I totally disagree. I am very happy I do not believe in superstitious beliefs that have no evidence of existing.  These superstitions were designed by men trying to control others to believe in  religions that have no rational or worthwhile values. Believers do not believe their position is superstitious simply because they have been indoctrinated into it, even though their god is outside the laws of physics. They think it’s a FACT vs superstition, and do not investigate  or question it.  Oddly, most believers think other religions that have a different god , but also breaks the laws of physics are false.

As an atheist, I think that original sin, heaven or hell, demons or Satan are superstitious beliefs that thousands of years ago were trying to explain how the world works. In other words, everyone from 2000 years ago were superstitious. In general the Bible treats all things pleasurable as if they are sinful, and condones things which are obviously immoral.

Atheism does not mean nihilism, which is a philosophical position which argues that existence is without objective meaning, purpose, or intrinsic value. Nihilists believe the world is for them alone and the only purpose is for their own existence. All theists have their own set of morals that they decide on a situation by situation basis – see our MORALS page.

Many times people say to me “you are an atheist? well then, you must not believe in anything!” I believe in reason, science, critical thinking and rational thought. I believe you can be a good and moral person without believing in a supernatural power that does not define itself to all of mankind nor has any evidence of its existence.

Some philosophers divide atheism into two camps, negative (weak)  and positive (strong). The positive atheists state that there is no god. The negative atheists say they do not believe there is a god and are very confident the likelihood of a supernatural deity is slim to none, but stay just shy of claiming that god does not exist. As an amateur scientist I would consider myself a very strong negative  atheist, as I do not have knowledge of the entire universe to claim a negative hypothesis.  I can  however, proof that several claims of deity can be proven false.  See the proof under Bruce’s Articles page.

One Response to Atheism

  1. I spent over fifty years trying to figure out this whole, God VS ‘reality’ business, and ended up having my third book about my ‘ curiosity VS spirituality ‘, finally published, and released a couple weeks ago in September. All I can say is that there is somethng out there, that once you experience it you really want answers. Not dogma. Once you’ve had a clairvoyant or psychic experience the chase is on. I had to research on my own because there is so much emotion attached to anyones’ idea of spirituality and politics, that there really is no chance of discussion without wrecking years of so called friendship.
Anyway my book is called ” Deadly! Deadly Serious Nonsense and Comical Calamity ”
Check out the Video attached to the press release. If it doesn’t peak your interest then the book, wasn’t worth the writing.
