Comments on: Believer’s Comments HERE http://backyardskeptics.com/wordpress Where humanists, rational thinkers, atheists and agnostics have a place to explore the world without religious dogma Wed, 30 Mar 2016 16:26:43 +0000 hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=4.4.3 By: Jeff Miller http://backyardskeptics.com/believers-comments-here/#comment-104291 Wed, 30 Mar 2016 16:26:43 +0000 http://backyardskeptics.com/#comment-104291 Now I see there is a “contact/comments” link and a “believer’s comments” link. However, a quick scan of both sections looks like everyone posting is a god believer attacking the site. I do not fall into that category. It would be nice if there was a neutral comment section for people who like your site to post comments or suggestions. Keep up the good work. Thank you.

Believers of what? I believe in lots of things but I don’t believe in organized religion. That is why I am here. I thought this was where people who read this website could post comments. Is there a place that people can post general comments?

2/13/16 John Kasich: “We Shouldn’t Try To Fix Climate Change Because That’s The Creator’s Wish”
This is indeed the title of the article but Kasich does not say anything stupid like that in the actual article. I doubt he really said that. I am not familiar with the website it was published on. If you insist on fact based evidence in general then you should have the same standards for items that you quote in your website. If you are not sure about the source then either don’t post it or post a disclaimer. This is my first visit to your website.

I think we are forgetting God’s principle goal in creating this world and sending His son. GOD IS LOVE.

God’s love is perfect and is for anyone. God’s love is not arguing and insulting one another but rather building each other up in order to pursue God. God’s love is perfect and when we pursue it we have a shot at that same purity and peace. I understand that many of your beliefs differ but just know that even choosing not to follow Jesus DOES NOT MAKE HIM LOVE YOU ANY LESS OR STOP LOVING YOU.

That in itself is amazing. Someone who loves us so much that when we disobey him or turn our back on him STILL LOVES US just the same. I definitely want that kind of love.

Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, Ted Butler and other atheists to (sic) numerous to mention, have formed a syndicate which has pledged BILLIONS for education and health funding for poor nations.”

“Meanwhile your evil Catholic church has spent billions defending and hiding their pedophile (You mean homosexual – a practice very widely defended by godless as well as Christian Leftists) priests. Tell your pope to sell that golden throne he sits on and give the money to the poor and dispossessed.”

Charlie, not only do you fail to demonstrate sufficient intellect to distinguish between “to” and “too,” but you also fail to discern the utter nonsense of your Leftist pablum.
Let me be the first to explain it to you. Unfortunately all your genius skeptics have not seen fit to do so, most likely because they did not think of it either.

Now IF any wealthy person “sells” something of considerable value, and gives the money to the poor and downtrodden, who bought that valuable item? According to your infinitely regressive socialist dogma, the new owner should also sell it and give that money to the poor. Hence the world can have no more things of value.
We shall all live in caves and tents, and be hunter-gatherers. Wealth is forbidden, in your, and Karl Marx’ wondrous world of skeptic beneficence.

Where on earth has socialism benefited all the people? Please name for this audience the very most wonderful socialist/communist utopia on earth? Surely North Korea is the most equal. Why don’t Leftists and atheists all move there?

He doesn’t preach, he lectures on science, and reality, thrashing Richard Dawkins the Hateful in the process.

I think they go to a really really outrageously annoying place where they are all stuck there hearing each other jabber on endlessly about how there is no GOD and they are just stuck there for like a super long time. Kind of like the first level of hell in dantes inferno where the ignorant philosophers go. That’s my personal opinion, I definitely could be wrong, and GOD may actually like certain atheists for some reason or another and over look their belief.

You would think that if you were so sure of yourself that would be enough. It would make much more sense to me but instead I guess you need to do a little more huh? But then why do you speak out so forcefully, make advertisements, try so hard to justify yourself to other people, along with getting together and congregating. Why do all these extra things? Are you afraid to be alone in your belief and need others to reassure it for you? Do you come together to feel safe and secure, telling each other that you have absolutely, positively made the correct choice? It really seems to me like your making a religion out of having no religion, which seems more than a little hypocritical. So is that name “backyard skeptics” just to soften people up because the word “ATHEIST” sounds too rough with certain connotations, so that they can come to an event unawares and it will be easier to place that artificial belief system comfort zone in their mind so that you can help secure it in yours further? Can you answer me that Bruce?

Now I call myself a know-nothing. That is true skepticism. True skepticism is also the pursuit of the truth in any field. Skeptics should have more knowledge about the available info than most before saying they do not believe. There are many forms of Christianity. Atheists like to point out the lunacy of those who follow the Bible to the letter. I agree wholeheartedly that those that think the Bible is the inerrant words of God put themselves in an undefendable position.
So let us suppose the Bible is inerrant and should be followed to the letter. What percentage of it should we act upon. Should it be 50%? or 75% or, if they are true to their beliefs, 100% (which leads to immediate self-destruction). Nonsense! The Bible is written by men. The Bible writers have God acting in all kinds of vengeful ways. We would not let our worst criminals today get away with what is supposedly the actions of God, especially in the Old Testament.
On another note, I would ask this. Give Christians enough respect to use Christ and not X in referring to them. I am not Muslim but I do not call them Xlums. That just shows a lack of respect for the views of others you may not agree with.
I am a Christian but know the portrayal of God in the Bible is hogwash. Jesus came to help us all live a better life. He did not say use the Bible as a weapon. He said follow his examples and encourage others to consider the message he gives as a way of life for yourself.
